Texas History – Lesson Plans

10/19/15 thru 10/23/15

Objectives: Students will be able to identify the areas of Texas that were explored by the Spanish and French explores and explain the motivations of governments and explorers for expanding European land claims.

Mon. Students will read Ch. 5 lesson 1 and explain how the first Europeans came to the Americas. Students will complete the self check quiz at the end of the lesson.

Tue. Students will discuss what they learned in lesson 1 and grade the self check quiz. Students will read lesson 2 and be able to explain what drove the Spanish to send Coronado to explore parts of what is now the United States. Students will complete the self check quiz for lesson 2.

Wed. Students will discuss what they learned in lesson 2 and grade the self check quiz. Students will read lesson 3 and be able to explain how the French established a settlement in Texas.

Thur. Students will discuss what they learned in lesson 3 and grade their self check quiz. Students will complete the 4 activities on page 136.

Fri. We will discuss and grade the activity from page 136.

Objectives: Students will be able to compare and contrast the characteristics of the different Native American cultures in Texas.

Mon. Students will read and discuss the Pueblo Culture in Texas and identify the characteristics of these people. Students will also identify the culture of the Tonkawa Indians of the Plains Culture.

Tue. Students will discuss the Mescalero Apaches and the Lipan Apaches of the Plains Culture.

Wed. Students will discuss the Comanches and the Kiowa of the Plains Culture.

Thur. Students will take a test over the Native Texans.

Fri. Students will read about the Early Explorers of Texas and be able to explain the motivatiions of governments and explorers for expanding European land claims.

Objectives: Students will compare the cultures of American Indians in Texas prior to European colonization as Gulf Plains,
Puebloan, and Southeastern Cultures. (TEKS: 7.2A)

Mon. Students will read and discuss Ch. 4 section 2 and analyze how the Coahuiltecans and Karankawas developed unique ways of life and how they adapted to the area.

Tue. Students will enter information they discussed on Monday and enter it into their Journals.

Wed. Students will read and discuss Ch. 4 section 3 and compare and contrast the Native American groups in the Southeastern culture.

Thur. Students will enter information we discussed on Wednesday and enter it into their journals.

Fri. Students will read and discuss the Plains Culture and Puebloan Culture area and enter information in their journals.

Objectives: Students will be able to explain the migration of the first Americans and compare and contrast different Native American groups in Texas.

Mon. Reteach and retake Ch. 3 Test.

Tue. Students will be taught how to log in to their Texas History book online and class will explore how to use the online textbook.

Wed. Students will read Ch. 4 lesson one and complete the first lesson notes in their foldable about how the first Americans reached the Americas.

Thu. Students will read Ch. 4 lesson two and complete the second lesson notes in their foldable about the Southeastern and Gulf cultures.

Fri. Students will read Ch. 4 lesson three and complete the third lesson notes in their foldable about the Pueblo and Plains cultures.
