(11) Geography. The student understands the characteristics, distribution, and migration of population in Texas in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The student is expected to:

(A) analyze why immigrant groups came to Texas and where they settled;

(B) analyze how immigration and migration to Texas in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries have influenced Texas;

(C) analyze the effects of the changing population distribution and growth in Texas during the 20th and 21st centuries and the additional need for education, health care, and transportation; and

(D) describe the structure of the population of Texas using demographic concepts such as growth rate and age distribution.

Objectives: Students will know how Moses Austin and Stephen F. Austin became involved in the colonization of Texas.

Mon. Reteach and retake Ch. 7 Test. Students will define vocabulary words from Ch. 8.

Tue. Students will read and discuss Ch. 8 Lesson 1 and be able to describe Moses Austin’s plan for Anglo American settlements in Texas. Students will complete Lesson 1 study guide.

Wed. Grade Lesson 1 study guide. Students will read and discuss Ch. 8 lesson 2 and be able to explain what Mexico did to affect who could colonize Texas and how much land they could buy. Complete Ch. 8 lesson 2 study guide.

Thu. ETCADA

Fri. Grade Lesson 2 study guide. Students will read and discuss Ch. 8 lesson 3 and explain who were the men and women of Stephen F. Austin’s first colony. Complete lesson 3 study guide.

Mon. Students will read and discuss Ch. 3 lesson 1 and identify the features and location of the Mountains and Basin Region. Students will create a foldable for the region.

Tue. Students will read and discuss Ch. 3 lesson 2 and identify the features and location of the Great Plains region and enter information in their foldable for the region.

Wed. Students will read and discuss Ch. 3 lesson 3 and identify the features and location of the North Central Plains region and enter information in their foldable for the region.

Thu. Students will read and discuss Ch. 3 lesson 4 and identify the features and location of the Coastal Plains region and enter information in their foldable for the region.

Fri. Students will complete the Ch. 3 assessment on page 97.

Tue. Students will read and discuss Ch. 2 Lesson 2 and identify the key geographic features and resources of Texas. Students will complete Lesson 2 review.

Wed. Students will read and discuss Ch. 2 leson 3 and explain how the climate affects the people of Texas. Students will complete Lesson 3 review question 3.

Thu. Students will complete a review activity.

Fri. Students will complete an assessment over Ch. 2.
